Morocco's Largest Vetted Artisan Network
Today, more than 25 years since its founding, Alcantara & Co. stands as the largest vetted artisan sourcing network in Morocco. Our reach extends across more than 30 countries, serving boutique retailers, wholesale brands, interior designers, architects, and hospitality groups. Despite this global scale, our philosophy remains unchanged. Every partnership is personal. Every product is handled with care. Every artisan is respected and valued. What began in the narrow streets of Marrakech has grown into an international platform for Moroccan craftsmanship—driven by the same passion, integrity, and dedication that inspired its creation.

Pioneering Remote Sourcing
When global disruption brought travel and trade to a standstill, Alcantara CO adapted quickly to protect both its artisans and its clients. We developed a fully digital sourcing model, transforming a traditionally hands-on industry into a connected, remote experience. Through virtual workshop tours, detailed digital lookbooks, and remote quality-control systems, we maintained transparency and continuity. This innovation allowed our artisan partners to continue working and earning, while ensuring that our international clients remained supplied—even during one of the most challenging periods in recent history. What began as a necessity became a lasting capability, redefining how sourcing can be done.

500+ Artisans Across Moroccan 12 Regions
Over the years, our network expanded significantly, reaching across 12 distinct regions of Morocco. From the Middle Atlas rugs makers to the historic tanneries of Fez, from the windswept coastal workshops of Essaouira to the mineral-rich landscapes of the Sahara, each region brought its own unique materials and traditions. Today, more than 500 artisans are part of our ecosystem. Each one is individually vetted, ensuring not only technical excellence but also ethical working conditions and respect for traditional practices. Every product we source is fully traceable—connected to its maker, its region, and the story behind.

Partnership with cooperatives & Foundations
Success brought with it a responsibility to give back. Formalizing our commitment to social impact, we established a partnership with some foundations & women cooperatives in Marrakech. Through this collaboration, a portion of our profits supports programs dedicated to reducing inequality and improving the lives of disadvantaged children when the foundations provide access to education, healthcare, and safe housing—fundamental resources that empower future generations. This partnership reflects a core belief: "The sustainable business must also contribute to sustainable communities."

European & North American Expansion
As word spread about our uncompromising standards and unique artisan network, international interest began to grow. Boutique retailers in Europe, United States & Australia turned to Alcantara CO not just as a supplier, but as a trusted partner. To meet this growing demand, we refined every stage of our process—from design collaboration to production oversight and final delivery. We introduced structured quality-control checkpoints, ensuring consistency while preserving the handmade nature of each piece. This period marked our transition from a local initiative to an international sourcing leader, without ever losing sight of the craftsmen at the heart of our work.

Morocco’s First Eco-Sourcing Initiative
Long before sustainability became a global priority, Alcantara CO recognized the importance of protecting both the environment and the integrity of traditional production methods. We launched Morocco’s first eco-conscious sourcing and packaging initiative within our sector. This included the use of 90% recycled cardboard, chemical-free finishes, and a strict policy excluding materials and processes that could harm the environment or the artisans themselves. Our approach was simple but forward-thinking: sustainability should not compromise quality—it should enhance it. By aligning ecological responsibility with artisanal excellence, we set a new standard for ethical sourcing in Morocco.

Building CO Partner & Artisan Network
The Alcantara CO was built not in boardrooms, but through years of personal encounters—shared tea, long conversations, and countless visits to workshops hidden deep within Marrakech, Fez, and beyond. Trust was earned slowly, relationship by relationship. Over time, these connections formed a carefully curated network of exceptional artisans, weavers working on traditional looms, ceramicists shaping clay by hand, and metalworkers crafting intricate designs with time-honored techniques. Into that handicraft network, Frederic met Said, a master artisan shaping brass lanterns with quiet precision & high quality. Both drawn by the craft, the idea took form between them. Together, they founded Alcantara CO, carrying the glow of Marrakech to the world. From these early partnerships emerged the rigorous quality standards. Each product was evaluated not only for its aesthetic appeal, but for its durability, authenticity, and adherence to traditional methods. This commitment ensured that every item we sourced carried the integrity of its origin.

The Beginning & The Vision That Takes Root
Frederic Alcantara arrived in Marrakech and was immediately captivated - not just by the city’s colors and energy, but by the depth and soul of its craftsmanship. In the winding markets of the medina, he discovered generations of artisans whose skills had been passed down with care, precision, and pride. With a background in international trade and a deep appreciation for handmade goods, Frederic recognized both the extraordinary value of these crafts and the challenges artisans faced in reaching global markets. He then founded Alcantara CO idea with a clear mission "to build a bridge between Morocco’s master artisans and an international audience that values authenticity, quality, and heritage". What began as a personal journey quickly evolved into a purpose-driven agent/company rooted in respect, collaboration, and cultural preservation.
