FREDERIC ALCANTARA
Frederic Alcantara made his first trip to Western Africa in 1987, and since then dedicated his life to working with global artisan resources. Working on behalf of NGOs such as Aid to Artisans, he designed and developed collections with artisans in Mali, Egypt, Ghana, Mozambique, South Africa, Pakistan, Haiti, Romania, Macedonia, Bolivia, El Salvador, Afghanistan… And as last country in which the vaste handcrafted products & variety, Morocco, and in which Frederic met Said Mirche who is an experienced and master artisan of brass lanterns in Marrakech and collaborate together to build the project of Alcantara CO.
Frederic & Said created Alcantara-Frederic Company in 2009 driven by the desire to showcase Moroccan artistry on a more global scale. Their goal was to work with artisans to keep cultural traditions alive, and to bring environmental consciousness to the forefront of design. Frederic passed away in his beloved farm in Marrakech, Morocco in July, 2021. He continues to be deeply missed as we continue his desire, work and legacy at Alcantara-Frederic CO.
